Privacy policy
Effective November 6, 2026
Short version: Busted does not collect, store on any server, sell or share any of your data. Your block list lives only in your own browser. Hoot judges you, but he keeps it to himself.
Who this covers
This policy covers the Busted Chrome extension (also listed on the Chrome Web Store as Focus Blocker) and this website, gotbusted.app.
What the extension stores, and where
The extension saves the following only in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) on your device:
- the list of sites you chose to block,
- the schedule for each site (days and hours) and whether it is paused,
- a counter of blocked attempts for the current day, used for the jokes on the blocked page.
This data is never sent to us or to anyone else. It is not synced to other devices. Uninstalling the extension deletes it.
What the extension does not do
- No accounts, no sign-up, no email.
- No analytics, no ads, no tracking, no cookies in the extension.
- No browsing history is collected or transmitted.
- No remote code. Everything the extension runs is included in the package you install.
Why the extension needs its permissions
- declarativeNetRequest: blocks requests to the sites on your block list. This is the blocking itself.
- tabs: reads the address of your open tabs, inside your browser only, so a tab that opens a blocked site is sent to the extension's blocked page. This also catches the Back button and in-page navigation. Addresses are not stored or sent anywhere.
- storage: saves your block list, schedules and today's attempt counter on your device.
- alarms: checks your schedules once a minute, so blocks switch on and off at the times you chose.
- favicon: shows each blocked site's icon from Chrome's local icon cache. No network request is made.
This website
gotbusted.app uses no cookies and no advertising trackers. To know how many people visit, it uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views and shows totals such as visits per page, country and browser type. Cloudflare states that it does not collect or use visitors' personal data for this. We only see these totals, never individual visitors.
The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which, like any web host, processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver the page and protect it from attacks. We do not receive or keep that data for any other purpose.
The "Add to Chrome" links include a tag (for example utm_source=gotbusted.app) so the Chrome Web Store statistics can show how many installs came from this site. The tag describes the link, not you.
If a video is shown on the page, nothing is loaded from YouTube until you click play. The video then plays from YouTube's privacy-enhanced domain (youtube-nocookie.com), and YouTube's own privacy policy applies to that playback.
Children
Busted does not collect personal data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.

Questions about privacy can be sent through the support contact on the extension's Chrome Web Store page.
